Do you already know which segments of your audience respond to specific types of products, content, or marketing messages? As you identify them, your plan may naturally start to take shape. For example, if you’re getting a lot of newsletter engagement from people that buy certain products in particular, you might decide to double down on a promotion in that area.

Targeting, viewability, brand safety and invalid traffic: Targeting, viewability, brand safety and invalid traffic all are aspects used by marketers to help advocate digital advertising. Cookies are a form of digital advertising, which are tracking tools within desktop devices; causing difficulty, with shortcomings including deletion by web browsers, the inability to sort between multiple users of a device, inaccurate estimates for unique visitors, overstating reach, understanding frequency, problems with ad servers, which cannot distinguish between when cookies have been deleted and when consumers have not previously been exposed to an ad. Due to the inaccuracies influenced by cookies, demographics in the target market are low and vary (Whiteside, 2016). Another element, which is affected within digital marketing, is ‘viewabilty’ or whether the ad was actually seen by the consumer. Many ads are not seen by a consumer and may never reach the right demographic segment. Brand safety is another issue of whether or not the ad was produced in the context of being unethical or having offensive content. Recognizing fraud when an ad is exposed is another challenge marketers face. This relates to invalid traffic as premium sites are more effective at detecting fraudulent traffic, although non-premium sites are more so the problem (Whiteside, 2016).
Affiliates work to introduce their visitors to the merchant’s brand. They might write a post about a new product or promotion on the merchant’s site, feature banner ads on their site that drive people to the merchant’s site, or offer visitors a special coupon code. If people come from that affiliate’s site and make a purchase, that affiliate gets paid.
The biggest problem that most people have when trying to learn anything to do with driving more traffic to their website or boosting their visibility across a variety of online mediums, is that they try to do the least amount of work for the greatest return. They cut corners and they take shortcuts. Because of that, they fail. Today, if you're serious about marketing anything on the web, you have to gain Google's trust.
Here’s an example for you. One of our most successful WP Courseware customers provides training on how to work from home doing a very specific task and how to grow that income to full-time. She had done it herself and using the methods she teaches, she was making over $40,000 a year with just a few hours a week as a “part-time” job. So she knew what she was talking about and kenw that if people followed the steps they would make money.
In terms of sales, 33 percent of participants drove a sale. When we see 10 percent of a client’s affiliate base driving sales on a regular basis, we consider that a healthy, well-managed affiliate program. To see 33 percent of a select group of affiliates driving sales tells us that this promotion works. Further, of the participants that drove sales, 25 percent of them drove their first sale ever within the program.
It’s simple, you build a list and then at any given time you can email your subscribers a product launch and cash in. For me it literally is the closest thing to printing money. I have friends who travel the world and live off just emailing promotions to their list. A lot of people don’t mind being send promotions, heck if I minded, I wouldn’t be on half the lists I’m on. If you want more information on list building, check this post out!
Paid channel marketing is something you’ve probably come across in some form or another. Other names for this topic include Search Engine Marketing (SEM), online advertising, or pay-per-click (PPC) marketing. Very often, marketers use these terms interchangeably to describe the same concept — traffic purchased through online ads. Marketers frequently shy away from this technique because it costs money. This perspective will put you at a significant disadvantage. It’s not uncommon for companies to run PPC campaigns with uncapped budgets. Why? Because you should be generating an ROI anyway. This chapter walks through the basics of how.
Michael’s video series is always very strong. It’s one thing he excels at very well. This is the opportunity for people to get to know Michael and the man behind the mission (and the solution that’s coming). Promoting this was important for adding trust, so I added small CTAs in existing emails to seed the idea of the course and begin feeding the more interested parties into the video series:
When considering a bonus promotion, offer an incentive that distinguishes you from your competitors. Maybe it’s a free style makeover; maybe it’s a single day of outrageous commissions. Look at what you have to offer, and work it into a creative affiliate promotion. Also, be sure you have properly defined the objective of the promotion. If you’re trying to drive affiliate engagement, tie the incentive to traffic. If you’re trying to drive revenue, tie the incentive to sales. And always make sure you measure the impact of your promotion so you know what works.
You can choose if your affiliates are paid a fixed commission or a percentage based commission. If you are choosing a percentage based commission, it will be based on the price the customer actually pays. So if your product is $100 with 50% commission and the customer uses a coupon which gives them $20 off, the affiliate will earn $40 in commission (50% of the $80 the customer paid).
One of the easiest mistakes to fix in your affiliate promotions is to get clarity on the start times and end times. During the holidays this is especially important as promotions often only run for a very short time. One or two days or even only a few hours. So make sure you are crystal clear on those times. That’s what Part 4 of the Ultimate Guide to Holiday Affiliate Promotions is all about.
