The great thing about the internet is that it makes it really hard for these people to continue to do this without getting caught. A couple of high profile companies have recently had their businesses shut down by the FTC in America for being accused of being scams. People will shout about it to anyone who will listen if they feel they have been ripped off. So it’s up to you to find out who is running the program you are considering and check them out. Contact them or their support desk, Google them and Facebook stalk them. An ethical marketer or company will be open and answer you and get back to you enquiries. People who have gone through their course or program will indicate whether it’s good or bad. Obviously no one can please everyone all the time so reputable businesses may have some disgruntled people, but if the evidence is overwhelmingly positive then take it on board. If you’re still not sure, keep investigating until you are. NEVER part with your money if you’re not 100% happy.
This is where some merchants miss the boat. Consider different payouts for specific affiliate types. For example, content affiliates may receive a higher commission on all sales during the promotion than coupon affiliates. Increasing commissions for a type of affiliate should take into account the discount amount, margins per sale, and the affiliates current commission payout. Showing affiliates that you care and are thinking about them when creating promotions can go a long way.
